Signaling in Inflammation Lab

RESEARCH GROUP’S MISSION

The main objective of our group is to study the intracellular signaling pathways and molecules involved on the resolution of inflammation. More specifically, we have been working with different proteins, such glucocorticoid-induced proteins (AnxA1, GILZ and MKP-1) and heme oxigenase-1, and their potential as pro-resolving molecules on acute inflammatory process. We have been also studing the resolution of inflammatory response during a bacterial infection model, specifically Streptococcus pneumoniae lung infection. Additionally, we have been exploring the role of the Plasminogen/Plasmin system to leukocyte migration and resolution of inflammation. On the context of human inflammatory disease, our group is interested in the signaling pathways involved on production of pro- inflammatory cytokines (MAPK, PI3K/Akt, NF-kB) as well as on the resolution pathways (AnxA1 and GILZ) by using peripheral blood mononuclear cells.
