Immunopharmacology Lab
RESEARCH GROUP’S MISSION
The major focus of the Immunopharmacology laboratory is on mechanisms associated with the onset, maintenance and resolution of inflammatory responses in the joint.
We use several models of articular disease, including antigen-induced arthritis, gout (uric acid crystal arthritis) and septic arthritis, and several techniques, including FACS analysis and intravital microscopy of the joint. In collaboration with the School of Pharmacy we have been screening the Brazilian flora for natural compounds which are inhibitors of the TNF-a and IL-1b pathways and of joint inflammation.
