Immunoregulation of infectious diseases

 

RESEARCH GROUP’S MISSION

 

Our laboratory and its projects focus in the comprehension of the modulation of immune and biochemistry response and them inter-relation with development of pathologies during Trypanosoma cruzi, Toxoplasma gondii and Plasmodium sp infections. To elucidate the relevant compound, from both pathogens and host, to induction and repression of immune response against microorganism, we apply experiments both in vitro and in vivo, using pharmacology and molecular biology tools. Among our mainly goal are the studies to determine the participation of eicosanoids (as lipoxins) and them receptors in the regulation of immune response and the development of pathologies during T. cruzi and others pathogens infection. Moreover, we are developing studies to identify and characterize the biochemistry and immunologic molecules of T. cruzi and T. gondii that possible modulate directly the host immune response during the infections. In summary, our goal is to investigate the potential therapeutic manipulation of the generation and activity of pro- and anti-inflammatory mediators during infectious disease in experimental animals, contributing to development of new strategies to prevent against development of diseases.
